About Us

Riv Begun is a mother, writer, and mental health counseling degree candidate.

There are no screens in her house, but after years of flying across the ocean to visit family, she realised that there are times when screens are ok. As Emily Oster said, they're ok when there's nothing else a child can be doing at that moment.

But as a former tech worker, Riv followed and felt concerned by the increase in overstimulating, short-form video content for children, and the ways that Youtube algoriths led young minds down dangerous rabbit holes. And as a writer, she valued story and wanted a way to share that love with children.

So Riv decided to create a solution. A collection of videos, with no connection to the Youtube algorithm. Human made and made with intention, with the health and development of your child in mine.

That's how Slow Kino was born.
